Rhone-Alps
Rhône-Alpes is one of the 26 régions of France, located on the eastern border of the country, towards the south. The région was named after the Rhône River and the Alps mountain range. Its capital, Lyon, is the second-largest metropolitan area in France after Paris.
One of the most beautiful mountain areas in the world, the French Alps. The highest mountain of Western Europe, Mount Blanc is located here - and the good news is you can even go skiing on it, using Chamonix as a base. There are many more skiing resorts in the area that may not have the charm of their Swiss and Austrian counterparts, but they tend to offer better value for money. Alp dHuez is more than just a skiing resort; it is also the mecca for cyclists. On its steep slopes many Tour de France has been decided.
There are also beautiful cities in the region, like Lyon the metropole of the south, which has some great museums, roman remains and and some of the best restaurants in the world. Grenoble and Annecy are nice towns to spend some time as well.
