Azay-le-Rideau was built on a small island on the Indre River, making it an area of unique charm. The château has been likened to a large stone ship as it almost appears ready to raise anchor and embark on a voyage down the river. A visit to Azay-Le-Rideau begins on the Rue Balzac. Walking along the streets is like going back in time to the 11th century, to the birth of this lively town that took thankfully took care to preserve its cultural heritage.
